The Wheaton family moved to Slamseys in 1967, having
previously farmed at Freebournes in Witham (just opposite the building that is
now the library) and when Phil and Pam Wheaton retired in the 1990s, their son Bill
and his wife Anne took over the running of the farm. Bill has continued to farm
the land and they have built up the Christmas tree sales that Phil
started from the back door of the farmhouse over thirty years ago and introduced
livery stables and caravan storage.
2012 sees the start of the next generation
joining the family farm with Beth planting fruit for her new drinks company and
Ruth making plans for bringing art to the farm. Follow our farm blog to see how the plans progress.
